STEEL GUITAR BANJO DOBRO
His pedal pushin', bar slidin', swingin' steel guitar adds a unique flavor to the broad spectrum of music performed by the band. |
| Marty hails from Fresno, California, where he was musically influenced by his father, a professional dixieland piano player. Marty began playing a four string tenor banjo at the age of eight and occasionally performed with his dad's band, the Notables. After graduating high school, Marty switched his interest to the five string banjo and, in 1974, formed the Blue Country Band. This band performed in countless venues throughout the valley until bluegrass hit its peak in 1981. It was then that Marty decided to broaden his horizons and, by 1983, he was back on the scene with one difference: Marty was now playing a pedal steel guitar. The group Sidekick hired him in 1983 and Marty has continued to work with various local bands since. Marty has opened for such acts as John Anderson, Jim Stafford, Marshall Tucker, and Willie Nelson. In February of 2002, Marty joined Tommy Swing, bringing to the table his full entourage of steel guitar, banjo, and dobro, thus solidifying the five-piece combo. And now, he brings the same confidence and stature to the newly reborn “Stardusters." |
